Homophobia: Racism Review

Gays, lesbians and bisexuals suffer legal discrimination in many countries. Imprisonment, floggings and capital punishment are used in some parts of the world against homosexuals. Even in places where homosexuality is no longer illegal, hate crimes such as gay bashings remain widespread and discrimination in employment, housing, medical treatment and financial services are still problematic. Discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation compounds racism and makes minorities doubly vulnerable.

Homophobia was not addressed in the Declaration at WCAR so is not on the agenda for the Durban Review Conference.
