Indigenous Peoples

Colonialism and new settlement disrupted the lives of indigenous peoples throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. For many indigenous peoples the legacy is social dislocation, alcoholism, disease and poverty. In countries as far apart as Finland and Peru, Tibet and Australia, indigenous peoples are disadvantaged in relation to other ethnic groups.

Indigenous issues were addressed in substantial measure in the Declaration at WCAR so is on the agenda for the Durban Review Conference.
