Women: Racism Review
A generation after feminism changed the lives of women in the western world; the majority of women are still disadvantaged in relation to men. Spousal abuse, trafficking of girls for prostitution, the use of rape as a means of control, arranged marriages; "honor killings" and genital mutilation destroy women's lives. Economic independence and equal pay remain dreams for many women. Gender discrimination compounds racism and makes minority women doubly vulnerable.
Gender discrimination was addressed in the Declaration at WCAR so is on the agenda for the Durban Review Conference.
